We have all been busy, like rabbits, this past month and plan to keep up the pace this coming year. Our new location at Bethany Church is working out so well for us with a spacious room and many windows for natural light during our Sew-In days.
Susan started our meeting with a recap on Quilt Canada, June 15-18 at the International Centre in Toronto of which one of our members, Dorothy Holdenmeyer, has had one of her quilts accepted into the National Juried Show. Congratulations Dorothy, we are all rooting for you!
Marilyn was inviting members to also vote for quilts for the Youth Challenge at Quilt Canada. There are many wonderful creative quilts that have been made by our Canadian Youth!
Northcott Fabrics currently has a challenge and when Margaret visited their location recently she picked up the packages/swatches of purple that are needed. Lorna has posted to our Facebook page locations where the extra Northcott Fabric can be bought if you are participating.
Tara updated us on the location of our QuiltCon Charity Challenge Quilt, which is currently in Texas, en route from California and should be returned to us sometime in April. We will have to make plans for our presentation to our charity choice – Project Smile !
Old quilts are something that we call love and we were delighted when Sue presented a circa 1850 quilt that she had bought an an antique market. We thoroughly enjoyed trying to decide if the appliqué was turkey tracks or wonky hearts and the delight that we feel it was a Modern quilt for it’s era was evident!
In up and coming events during out April 14th meeting Michelle Dunham of Kindred Spirits will be demonstrating the Accuquilt Fabric Cutter. This is a demonstration that many of us have been eagerly waiting for and during out next scheduled Sew-In, on Saturday April 16th some of our members will bring along their Accuquilt for others to try.
May 12th guess speaker Corine Amory will be doing a presentation about the Fibonacci method of quilting using Focal Points and creating harmony in your quilts. It’s something that we all strive for!
Mark your calendar for our April 16th Sew-In Date because it is sure to be a crowd pleasing event. Our potluck lunch will be fun and Susan Bowslaugh will be doing a demo on Improv Piecing. The time is 9:30-4 pm. Please bring your own extension cords, your sewing machine and your creativity.
Just a reminder also that April’s challenge is Black & White and May’s challenge is Rectangles.
March’s challenge was Something from Scraps and we hope you enjoy looking at our projects!
***** Pictures to follow shortly, we’ll let you know when they are posted *****
