We opened our Canada 150 meeting with a fantastic display of 19 Canada quilts/themed quilts and red & white coloured quilts. Heck we even had twins when 2 of our members made the same wall hanging and each of them also made the Canada 150 paper pieced logo. How is that for serendipity !
We also welcomed a new member when Anne joined our Guild . We had 4 visitors and Dianne, one of the visitors came with information on the Quilt of Belonging display which is happening in Hamilton for the next month. Quite a number of our members have seen it, but if you haven’t it is an awe inspiring display with some rich blocks and wonderful craftsmanship!
A reminder that we don’t have a meeting in August, yet this year we are going to have a casual meeting at Lindsay’s parents place, also on 3rd Ave. just down the road from where our meetings take place and we will be doing some dying of fabric. June Robertson is coming to the meeting and she has extensive knowledge of dying and many hints!! Debbie will be posting information about this by the end of the week. It’s on Saturday August 19th from 9:30 to 3 pm.
Stephanie also reminded us to send photo’s of our sewing rooms to her cell phone and she will be doing a slide show called ” Guess Who’s Sewing Room This Is” !! I see some fun coming up during that meeting!
We had quite the lively discussion about Quilt Canada and since 4 of our members volunteered there * kudos and many thanks * we learned a bit about how Quilt Canada is planned and the inner workings of setting up the show. Next year the show will be in Vancouver. We learned about judging, entering and criteria.
Quilt Con 2018 will be coming up sooner than we think and again we had a discussion about how to Modernize Traditional blocks into Modern Quilts. The actual web pages for the QuiltCon 2018 Charity Quilt have some examples, so please check it out and come to the September meeting with your ideas,
Near the end of our meeting Tara told us about the workshop she attended hosted by Angela Walters. Wow, it sure sounded amazing and would be something that each and every one of us would have enjoyed!
We finished the night with our Garage Sale. Everyone put fabric they were selling, with prices marked on the items and there was also a free table with lots of neat fabric. Heck Audrey found some fabric and covered some chairs with it already!!!!
A new blog post will be going up shortly about our Dye-In on August 19th with supplies and needed items. Remember to wear old clothing you are not worried about that day. It should be a lot of fun!! *** I have sent out the email with instructions for that day. The indigo dye has been ordered and arrived. It looks to be an exciting day on August 19th !!! ***
