September 2021 Guild Meeting

Welcome back guild members, we hope you had a wonderful summer. It looks like some of our members had some sewing time see our gallery of photos below.

WIP is # 4 for October’s meeting

Quilting with Kindness

Barbara shared with us the history of Harriet Tubman school and the reason the committee chose this as our charity for giving. So far, the guild has received three quilts and are planning a Zoom Bee later this month, to make blocks to go towards a quilt. Thanks to Lorna C for designing the block for this project. The committee is looking for quilts that are no larger than 50″ x 60″ in size, so smaller is fine. They welcome finished quilts, quilt tops, backing fabric.

London Roads Vintage to Modern Presentation

Thanks to Kathleen O and Roxane H for their London Roads presentation. They took us along their journey of discovering the name of an antique quilt that Kathleen had inherited. Kathleen O has taken her yellow and white quilt on the road as part of her trunk shows, but no one knew the name of the block in the yellow quilt…until one day. Roxane saw Kathleen’s post asking the name of the quilt. She had been researching blocks for an upcoming class and recognized Kathleen’s block. Roxane asked Kathleen if it was like the London Roads block? Indeed it was! The two met up, talked about their love of Newfoundland, lassie buns and quilting.

They shared lots of great inspiration of vintage quilts, different ways the block can be set and layout options that give this block a new twist. We were disappointed that we could not meet in person and try out them lassie buns, they look some good!
